TACFLEET NOTES

It should be noted that all of the information contained herein is based upon two encounters. While both encounters were extensive and yielded much information, more observations are needed to paint a complete picture of this new class.

This new class of light cruiser, dubbed "Render" by the USS SPITFIRE, was first encountered around 18 months ago by the aforementioned THUNDERBOLT-Class DD attached to Deep Space 13. Since that time, it has been encountered by Tactical Squadron 91 on at least one other occassion- the 1st Battle of the Tybiiran Complex. In that battle, 3 were encountered supporting 2 heavy cruisers, believed to be TRICERATOPS-Class or a variant thereof. The battle was a firece one, with the new RENDER-Class cruisers performing their task of supporting and screening the larger vessels well against a technologically superior force.

These new light cruisers represent a general upgrade of almost every system from the STEGOSAURUS-Class CL's. In addition to upgrades to the power plant, weapons systems and defensive systems, an extra torpedo bay was fitted in the forward firing arc, making her all the more deadly than her predecesor.

The RENDER-class seems to have been designed to replace the aging STEGO's as the primary escort and exploration vessels on the frontier. However, given recent Gorn activity, it is thought that perhaps escort or, as in the Tybiiran campaign, task force operation of several "Render's" represent their primary duties at this time.

No official class name has been given to this class as of this time- it is currently identified by the moniker first attached by SPITFIRE personnel.
