B. Background Summary:

Paul was born in Brisbane to his mother, with his father already absent from the family prior to his birth. There is much conjecture within family circles as to the identity of his father. The identity has been narrowed to a high powered business man or a senior Federation official, but the identity has never been confirmed. Whilst a mystery within family circles, it is a question that neither Paul, nor other members of the family, have any particular interest in pursuing.

Paul's mother was a strong woman, who blossomed into parenthood and managed the challenging juggle of single parenthood and primary breadwinner for the family extremely well. Just after Paul's 9th birthday, the family moved to northern Queensland in order for Rhonda to pursue job prospects and to give her family a better life away from a major city.

Both Paul and his older sister Heather thrived living in northern Queensland. Both children loved the outdoors, and this coupled with natural intellects and inquisitive minds, relish their teenage years and blossom. Living in a region like northern Queensland, gave them fantastic opportunities with the close proximity of natural phenomena such as the World Heritage listed Great Barrier Reef and Daintree Rainforest. They made the most of the opportunities and not unsurprisingly both children have a real interest and passion for the sciences, particularly the biological sciences.

Paul's natural sense of discovery and intrigue continually challenged him to try new things as he grew up, and not surprisingly, he yearned to learn and discover more. Introduction to the Federation and Starfleet captured Paul's excitement and intrigue, and not surprisingly, when offered the opportunity to attend Starfleet Academy he leapt at it. His time at the Academy saw him to grow and flourish, his nature revelling at the possibilities and opportunities Starfleet offered. Not surprisingly, he graduated the Academy with Honours.

Paul was assigned to the USS ARABINUS as Chief Science Officer straight out of the Academy. He quickly caught the attention of the Command Staff of the ARABINUS with his enthusiasm and dedication to his role, along with his natural, laid back nature and loyalty. His efforts saw him steadily climb the promotion ladder, taking on more senior roles as he progressed. He excelled after moving to Operations and as Second Officer.

The USS ARABINUS was assigned to undertake a standard survey mission of Kylon II but the mission was far from standard. The arrival of the ARABINUS in the Kylon system coincided with the system plunging into civil war between the 2 dominant races in the region. The mission of the ARABINUS shifted from scientific survey to a diplomatic mission, with the crew tasked with brokering peace in the region. Terrorist elements backed by a local criminal consortium had vested interests in the region remaining destabilised and took the opportunity to act against peace talks being held on the ARABINUS. They disabled the ARABINUS through a terrorist act, then attacked the stricken vessel with a small fleet of vessels they used for smuggling. Henderson's efforts in aiding the stricken ship and fending off the attackers, selflessly maintaining his post in the face of major difficulties and odds against the ARABINUS is considered one of the key reasons the ship survived and the pirates were defeated. He was cited for bravery for his efforts in the battle that ensued.

After the Kylon mission, Paul took leave from Starfleet to recover and assess his future. The yearning for discovery and learning that Starfleet fuelled continued to burn, and when approached to take on the role of Executive Officer with the USS SORANUS, he took the opportunity.

The USS SORANUS saw Paul continue to blossom as an officer. His reputation throughout Starfleet, and particularly amongst those that served on the SORANUS, continued to grow. This is reflected by the impact that the SORANUS' disappearance had upon many Starfleet personnel. The SORANUS vanished on 180401 with all hands on board. An extensive search of the region where the SORANUS vanished provided little evidence as to what had occurred. No wreckage was found, discounting a battle or destruction of any sort. It was one of the lasting mysteries for Starfleet, and particularly for those who had personal connections with the ship and its crew.

4 years after disappearing, a small distress beacon was detected in the region of the SORANUS' last known location. A rescue mission was launched, and a small cluster of escape pods, containing some of the SORANUS crew was discovered. Those crew who returned have gone through extensive debriefing as to what occurred and the fate of the SORANUS and majority of her crew. It appears that the SORANUS was caught in some form of temporal anomaly which saw time move much slower than standard space, accounting for the seeming lack of time which has passed for the crew. After extensive debriefing and recuperation, the crew have all been passed fit for active duty and to resume their careers in Starfleet. Given his extensive and exemplary record, Henderson has once again been tapped on the shoulder to take on the role of Executive Officer, this time on the USS FENRIR.

RECENT FITNESS REPORTS

"Lieutenant Commander Henderson has proven himself a true asset since joining the crew of the ARABINUS, being well liked by all crew members and a promising officer. The crew as a whole, and I personally, owe Henderson a great debt for his heroic efforts during our mission to the Kylon sector. Without his dedication and selfless acts, it is likely we would not have returned from that mission. I value Henderson not only as a fellow Starfleet officer but also as a friend. He will undoubtedly be an asset to any vessel he serves on, just as he has been on our vessel."

  • CAPT Hugo Rodriguez

PERSONALITY SUMMARY

Paul is a fairly easy going, laid back type of guy. He tries to defuse situations before they become problems. As well as this, he treats everyone around him the way he'd like them to treat him, with kindness and respect. His open mindedness and friendly nature make it easy to fit in to anywhere and to get along with anyone. However, this easygoing nature can also be deceptive. He takes his duty in Starfleet very seriously, having always aimed to be a part of the fleet. His loyalty is to the fleet and his ship. He does not take his responsibilities lightly and, if needed, he can be steadfast to the point of being obstinate. But, he always does it with the best of intentions and, thus far, hasn't had any problems. He'll make the effort to get to know everyone, and treat everyone as equals. Starfleet is his life, but more importantly, he considers it his family. In that regard, when called upon, his loyalty is beyond reproach and his actions are likewise.
