B. Background Summary:

Steven F. Drake grew up in an environment combining old British (father) and Spanish (mother) nobility. This formed a very selfconfident man with a straight-forward mind. He is very much like his father RADM Robert Francis Drake (currently COMLOG) when it comes to duty-related matters. In private life Drake is more like his mother, a Spanish Comtessa from Barcelona.

In Sir Francis Drake the Drakes have a famous ancestor in Earth's history. During the 16th century the British privateer sailed under the flag of the British Empire. He preyed on Spanish ships and bases on his voyages. His ship - the Golden Hind - was no warship but his keen sense of maritime warfare and sailing proved to be essential. The Drakes of today claim that sense has been bequeathed through the centuries. Taking into account the career of VADM Robert Francis Drake and his son LCDR Steven Francis Drake this might be true.

During his life before SFA he had been well shielded from any bad things in life but had to face the danger of being held as hostage when he was a child of 4 years age. This incident almost drew him into the main direction of security but he quickly learned that Operations is the faster way to command-red. Somehow it became therefore a kind of obsession to him.

He dislikes very much beings with inproper behaviour or bad manners. What makes him really angry is violence of superiors or strong beings against subordinated or weaker ones.

C. Medals and Commendations:

Commendations: 2
From: CAPT Roger Thorne SD: 150829

Mr. Drake has performed extraordinary during his service on board USS FAIRBANKS. Part of his time he had to take over TAC/SEC-duty too. He ran double shifts for 4 weeks after we had lost our CSO on an away mission.

Mr. Drake is not a very congenial partner. He often says things the way he thinks about it. On the other hand he is as honest and honourable a man can be.

It's a pity to lose an officer like LTJG Steven Francis Drake. But from what I know, he has a vocation for higher honours of service in the fleet.

Respectfully submitted, Captain Thorne, CO USS FAIRBANKS

From: CAPT Nikolai Gruschenkow SD: 170504

LCDR Drake is a polarising personality to say at least.

First and most essential for a commanding officer he is a fine officer with a stable character. Fleet-service is a vocation to him and his performance displays that in a very significant way. His performance has met the highest standards for the most time he was assigned to our taskforce.

Second, he is definitely no officer of whom to expect blind obedience or "sticking to the book". He always challenges things and orders for himself and if something is not correct or clear from his point of view he tries to iron things out until he's satisfied. Despite this Mr. Drake has always been polite and respectfully to superiors and - more important - to subordinates. Although I have to admit he sometimes "tipped the line" it had worked out, that he had been right with his point of view.

As a friend he is reliable and deserves the respect of a true friend once he offers you friendship. His friendship is not easy to achieve by the way.

It is sad that I lose Mr. Drake. He had been a very good officer _and_ friend. God speed and good luck for his future career, which I will keep an eye on.

Respectfully submitted, CAPT Nikolai Gruschenko, USS BATTLE AXE, Flagship TF-17

Psychological Profile

LCDR Drake is a reliable and stable character. The Spanish part of his heritage sometimes breaks through and shows a hot temper but the British part cools it down very fast.

Drake's British heritage goes back to Sir Francis Drake a shimmering personality in Earth's history. He somehow has a feeling for vital things around spaceships like his famous ancestor had for sailing ships in the 16th century of Earth's history.

His education has been a traditional one. From his parental home he got the British way of living and the sense for honour and loyalty of the Spanish nobility. His sense of honour sometimes is too strong, so he runs into trouble by his bluntly way of telling his thoughts and opinions by occasion. Superiors who can work with his "undiplomatic" way will get an officer with high potential.

His ambitions are to explore space or to play a vital role in combat.

The conclusion is, that Steven Drake has the potential to become a good StarFleet officer and maybe a good CO too. (Dr. Richard Hoskinson, COU TF-17, SD 170504.1330)
