His father is a lawyer, and his mother is a Professor of Chemistry. He was always interested in the sciences. He attended the University of California in San Franscisco in an attempt to live someplace with better weather. He majored in biology and specilized in the study of extremophiles. He reached the conclusion that the best place to study them was in space and entered a master's degree program at Starfleet Academy. He is a die-hard New York Yankees fan, and follows the team, even while deployed. He is more than happy to talk about baseball if the subject comes up. On the LOCKE his XO would advise new crew members to avoid the subject, unless they had half an hour to waste. While he was a student at UC-SF, he met Sarah Goldfarb, and began their long relationship that has produced three children. They have never married, but remain close, and David sees his children every chance he gets. They have settled into a routine of deployments and reunions, and are comfortable with their relationship. Sarah is a phychologist, and would most likely explain that it's easier for them both to deal with the danger inherent in a Star Fleet career because they are not married. David made the transition from the sciences to command under fire. While aboard the PARIS he was on an away mission with the ship's XO when the XO was killed. As the ranking officer on the away mission, he took command and completed the mission. This resulted in a field promotion, and assignment as XO. C. Personality Summary: ----------------------- David has an analytical approach to life, and this led him to an interest in science. He was drawn to the study of organisms that live in extreme environments, and then to space, the most extreme environment of all. He likes to lead from the front, which can get him into trouble.
