MAJOR CASE RESPONSE TEAMS (MCRT)
capital starbase. The remaining four MCRTs are highly specialized and are dispatched as circumstances warrant. Two MCRTs are Special Victims Units specializing in sex crimes, child and elderly-victim crimes, and trafficking of sentient beings. The remaining two specialized units are tasked with responding to hostage situations, kidnapping and missing persons cases.
Each MCRT is typically led by either a Special Agent in Charge (SAC) [AG-6] or a Supervisory Special Agent (SSA) [AG-5] depending on the compliment of the unit and available personnel. Regardless of grade, the role is billeted as the unit’s Bureau Chief, a nostalgic holdover title from old Earth’s Detective Bureaus. This role and grade is equivalent to a Star Fleet/SFMC Warrant Officer, a highly specialized leader in their specific field.
The core components of every MCRT are the individual units, each consisting of a team of two (2) agents partners. These partnerships are most often arranged in a mentor/mentee style whereas the more senior agent has the duty to train, develop and prepare the junior agent for the next step in his/her career advancement.
After the unit, the next organizational level is the Squad. A squad is composed of two (2) units, and each MCRT may have anywhere between four to eight squads, depending on caseload and needs of that division. Squad Units may be assigned to work independently or cooperatively at the discretion of the ADD. Typically, more complex and/or high profile cases will require significantly more personnel for a swift resolution of the case.
MCTRs are supplemented by personnel from Support Operations Divisions on an as needed basis and may include professionals such as forensic specialists, technology experts or information analysts. This specialized approach in the distribution of tasks has proven successful in a more rapid resolution of cases, less redundancy of efforts and permits field agents to focus on investigations while the specialists delve into the forensics of each case.
