RT0810- CSFO Report

From StarFleet Bureau of Information
CSFO REPORT:

Assembled Delegates:

This is has been a very interesting six months since I became your
CSFO. I have tried to do my job as best I could as I was greener than
green. *laughs* As I said when I accepted the position, I am a simple
woman with a simple education. There has been a lot for me to learn
since I took on this position. And boy...did I get a quick thrust
into the mix of things from the starting gate.

I want to thank Bruce, Scott and Jeff for having patience with me as
I learned and am still learning my way around this job. I especially
want to thank Scott for taking me under his wing and teaching me the
ropes.

This is my first time to do a report, so please bear with me and all
my humble scratchings.

CSFO REPORT:

The first thing on my agenda is just briefly discussing the Fleets
and what has changed since April. As everyone is aware, GREEN closed
and all her units placed into SILVER, GOLD and BLUE.
SB SAIKAI went to SILVER, USS DAEDALUS went to GOLD and KLON players
decided to shut down and left over players were placed within other
BLUE UNITS. Both SB SAIKAI and USS DAEDALUS are active and doing
well.

Next, I am going to report on are the BIO submissions to ASR. Since
I took over in May 1, 2008 we have had a total of *36 combination
submissions thru asr-join group and CO recruits. Bio submissions that
came thru the ars-join list totaled 28. Of these 28, there were 23
new players, 2 return players and 3 second bios. Players reported
were 14 however, only 8 are posting. We had 14 no replys and 2
players resigned. Most of the 14 No Replys were people who needed to
complete the bios or make adjustments which leads me to believe many
of these people may have just been curious about us and had no real
interest in doing what it takes to become a writer on ASR. It has not
been the best six months for us recruiting wise but those who have
stayed are active and thriving.

*Note: 5 of these players came from the new opening of ODYSSEUS.

SUBMISSIONS:
TOTAL: 28

NEW PLAYERS: 23
RETURN PLAYERS: 2
SECOND BIOS: 3

NO REPLYS: 14
REPORTED: 14
POSTING: 8
RESIGNED: 2

How do we improve our recruitment?

Scott had a great one that has us go thru the members list and
recontact those who joined a while back. We will be working on as
soon as possible.

I don't know if anyone has used this idea in the past but what if we
had a contest for those members who wish to particpate and have them
come up with a flier that advertises ASR. Have the members vote and
the winner will have its flier posted on the BUPERS. And then for
those who want to help with advertisement, download and or print the
flier and post them in Libraries, colleges, supermarkets, laundromats
and any where else you noticed a free bulletin board that allows free
advertising. We all come from different countries and or states.
Imagine all the places we can get free advertising.

Next on the agenda is to show you how well the Fleets Units have
been doing. I will let the Master Vacancy speak for itself.

BILLET NUMBER UNITS
---------------------------------------------------------------------
--
CO 0
XO 2 VALHALLA, YAMATO
OPS 3 FEARLESS, KIROV, NEBULA

COU 4 EXCALIBUR, FEARLESS, ORESTES, ODYSSEUS

MCO 1 ODYSSEUS
---------------------------------------------------------------------

23 TOTAL OPENINGS

*Note: Before ODYSSEUS opened we only needed to fill 20 openings, so
now we are back up to 23, but the benefit of ODYSSEUS opening - we
received 5 new players which were tallied up within the Bio
submission section.

As you can see, Engineers are the main billet that desperately needs
filling on six ships. Science and Counselors officers next in the
line. Hopefully, in the future, we will receive these type of
submissions, but so far people are having to recruit on their own
within or outside of ASR. This is a positive thing as we shouldn't
always rely on just the asr-join submissions.

* This number is the total actual players in ASR. There are 156
billets but we have multiple players filling in more than one billet,
even though these people never complain or ask for recognition. They
really deserve our applause and appreciation for showing loyalty and
dedication to ASR. It is not always easy to play multiple billets.
(Says the lady with the many hats.) But they do it because the love it
and thrive in the game.

The Final thing on my report is Posting.

POSTING :

STARFLEET ARCHIVES 2008
Apr May Jun Jul Aug Sep
87 139 162 189 132 163

We can see that April with 87 posts was not the best month for us
and July with 189 post was our best month so far this year. Compared
to previous years, it has not been our very best posting.

However taking in consideration all that we have been thru, it
really hasn't been too bad a year. Even with GREEN merging into GOLD,
BLUE and SILVER Fleets, we have done a respectable amount of posting.
Many of our members have had some tragedies hit home and many have
faced real life issues that have demanded our time. And yet we still
all manage to some how post and it shows how much we all truely love
ASR and her members.

But I feel that we really aren't getting a full picture of ASR.
There is a great deal of activity done behind the scenes that is
rarely or never seen. I decided to take a look into all the units and
gathered all the postings and nrpgs.

TOTAL GROUP NRPGs :
Apr May Jun Jul Aug Sep
87 172 126 97 110 102

I feel the NRPG's are important. True, they don't count as a post
but it shows we are alive, interacting and invovled with one
another as a group. These NRPG are many times where people discuss
mission related stuff. That is not counting all the private emails
sent back and forth of the give and take of ideas between members.
And of course we know that another very important role of NRPG's is
allowing people to feel a part of a team. This adds a personal touch
to our members and keeps us knitted as a family.

The big question is ....How do we fix posting issues?

How can we fix posting?

I had myself placed on each unit on every Fleet. It kind of helped
give me a little insight as to why some Units do better than others.
And as we all know, the biggest issue is "Time." So many of our best
people just don't have the time due to real life issues. The ones
that manage to put a great deal of time into the members and writing
are the ones that are the power posters.

Do the ones who don't have time step down and let someone else take
their place? But who is that someone? How many veterans want to take
the time and do the work that members never see that is done by the
FC's and especially the CO's. As soon as most people find out what is
entailed they want no parts of it. Too much work. Many just want to
have fun and write on ASR without the headache of doing all paper
work and not so fun stuff that comes along with the job title.

I personally don't know the answers. What I do know is that each of
you have a special place here on ASR and we need you ALL. You each
have different creative and writing styles. You All touch the
lives of so many people on a daily basis. You didn't make it to your
positions because of good looks (though some of you are rather dishy
*winks*) You made it because of who you are. It comes shining thru
your writing, creativity and leadership skills. It shows thru the
years of commitment you have made while here at ASR.

I know for a fact that not one person here on this list is a quitter
and when life has thrown us a curve and knocked us on our @SS we got
back up on our feet. Many of us have had to leave at one time or
another due to real life but we fought our way back. In the end, it
is not just the recruiting or the posting that draws us back but it
is the people of ASR and the stories in this wonderful world we have
created that magically draws us back.

It is during the rough times we need to help one another and support
each other. If we can make it thru the rough times as well as good
times, then there is nothing that can pull us apart. We are all one
team. We all need each other. No one person is more or less
significant than the other.

I want to thank ALL of the FC's, their CO's and XO's who
volununteer their free time to ASR and her members. You each are part
of the back bone and foundation of ASR.

Humbly Submitted,

Lena Rose,
Chief of Starfleet Operations (CSFO)
