The Tholian Ruby-Class is another enigma to come out of Tholian Space. The class appears as a cube, faintly reminiscent of a Borg Cube, except that it always orients itself to be 'on point'.
An individual Ruby-Class can barely make Warp 1.4 but if two to five Ruby-Class ships are in formation, their maximum speed rises to Warp 2.2. If six to ten ships are present then their maximum speed rises to Warp 3.3. Eleven to fifteen ships, Warp 4.4 and so on until the maximum speed of Warp 7.6 for twenty-six to thirty ships is reached. No more than thirty ships have been seen together and it is believed (but not confirmed) that this is the maximum number that are able to work together.
Precisely how the Tholians are able to do this is unknown, like so much else about Tholians.
The type has been observed patrolling INSIDE their borders and around and about their various Space Stations. The type is lightly armed except for the dreaded Tholian Web Generator. When thirty ships are present, the Web can be formed in a frighteningly short space of time.
