Commander, Star Fleet Judge Advocate General (COMJAG)

• Reports directly to the CSFO
• Holds the Star Fleet or Star Fleet Marine Corps rank of O-7 acting/interim basis, or O-8/O-9 permanent assignment
• Responsible for interpreting, evaluating and executing the legal strategy for Star Fleet
• Makes recommendations to the Admiralty regarding updates to the Star Fleet Uniform Code of Military Justice
• Advises the CSFO, CINCSF, COMLOG, Branch Commanders and UFP Secretary of Star Fleet on all legal matters
• Frequently collaborates with DIRSFSECIS, DISFI/DOSFI and the SF Inspector General in pertinent matters of Federation Security.
• May serve as Presiding Judge in cases regarding matters of Federation Security
• May serve as Defense Counsel in cases regarding Star Fleet tried in other Federation or Non-Federation worlds.

• Responsible for for the management of the court martial calendar and case file assignments across all SFJAG facilities
• Supported by a Legal Services Assistant, who holds the Star Fleet or Star Fleet Marine Corps rank of E-8 or E-9 typically

Commander, Divisional Star Base Officer JAG (COMDSOJAG)

• Reports directly to CoS/JAG
• Holds the Star Fleet or Star Fleet Marine Corps rank of O-5 or O-6 typically
• Responsible for implementing and interpreting the SF UCMJ on all Star Fleet facilities within the assigned jurisdiction of a capital Star Base
• Directly/indirectly supervises the junior officers and enlisted support staff assigned to the DSO.
• May be serve as Presiding Judge, Trial Counsel or Defense Counsel in cases regarding matters related to the assigned Star Base or likewise in other cases as appointed by COMJAG/DEPCOMJAG/CoSJAG

Staff Judge Advocate

• Reports directly to the XODSOJAG
• Holds the Star Fleet or Star Fleet Marine Corps rank of O-2 or O-4 typically
• Star Fleet officers who have obtained one or more advanced law degrees and have passed the UFP Bar Association exam.
• Typically will serve as either Trial Counsel, Defense Counsel, or assistant to either role in larger cases.
• SJAs are assigned to teams of two officers and one enlisted support staff
• Teams typically focus on one type of law, (criminal, diplomatic, etc.)

Legal Services Officer

• A warrant officer of Star Fleet or Star Fleet Marine Corps designated to perform legal duties outside of a court-martial.
• Holds the Star Fleet or Star Fleet Marine Corps rank of WO2-WO4 typically
• Not an officer certified by the Service Judge Advocate General as a Judge Advocate. Not a military attorney.
• May be assigned to a Star Base or Starship to provide non-judicial administrative legal support to the unit.
